Of Ash and Steel
Of Ash and Steel is a story-driven role-playing game set on an open-world island with a variety of biomes. Players take the role of Tristan, a cartographer whose path leads to far greater events. The main story runs for over 45 hours and includes extensive dialogue, written characters, books and side quests. Players can talk to locals, help with their tasks and see how opinions of the character change as he progresses. Choices and actions affect the world and the characters in it.
Combat requires players to manage stamina, time attacks and parries, and choose between three battle stances, several weapon types and active skills. The character does not begin as a renowned fighter, so progress depends on learning these systems. Builds can range from a rapier wielder to a heavily armoured knight. Players can also use the environment during fights. Two major factions are available to join, each with its own storyline, quests and exclusive rewards.
The game has no quest marker system, so players rely on dialogue, quest text, books and notes to find their way. Players can mark locations of interest on their own map and search the island for hidden treasures. A range of professions is available, including fishing, hunting, alchemy and blacksmithing, which allows players to craft a one-of-a-kind sword. One new DLC item has recently been added on Steam.
