OminouSushi
OminouSushi is a merge puzzle game set in a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant. Sushi travels along the belt and the player chooses when to drop each piece into a tank below. When two matching pieces collide they combine into a higher-tier piece, with seven tiers in total running from a cucumber roll up to the Gold Ship. The merging uses physics, so the position and movement of pieces in the tank affects how they interact.
Alongside the merging, the game introduces anomalies. Ominous sushi appears on the belt without warning and is designed to look like it belongs, with some anomalies being obvious and others hidden in small details. Unusual things can also appear elsewhere in the restaurant, not just on the belt. The player must decide quickly whether to drop a plate into the tank or flag it as an anomaly before it falls, and can also call out oddities in the surroundings. Correct calls on certain anomalies trigger Fever Time, incorrect calls cost points, and any ominous sushi that is missed ends up cluttering the board. The belt speeds up over the course of a run and does not slow down again once it has accelerated.
The game includes 72 anomalies to find, which are recorded in an Anomaly Dex, and the title screen keeps the player’s five best scores. The Japanese-inspired soundtrack increases in tempo as the belt speeds up. OminouSushi supports mouse, keyboard and controller input, offers six interface languages and fullscreen mode, and can be played offline. The game has now been released.
