Pigeon: A Love Story
Pigeon: A Love Story does something properly daft and properly brilliant at the same time. You fly around full-scale recreations of London, New York, Tokyo, Paris and Amsterdam, every street and building faithfully rebuilt, searching for one specific pigeon out of hundreds of thousands. That pigeon is your soulmate. This is not a joke, or at least not only a joke.
The whole thing runs on what they call Pigeon-Sim tech, basically a massive real-time simulation of pigeon NPCs going about their business across an entire city. You can call out to them as you fly past and most will just ignore you or brush you off, but every so often one gives you a clue. Somewhere in that mess of wings and rooftops is the one you’re looking for.
You can bring up to eight mates along for two different multiplayer modes, either finding each other or racing to find your soulmate first, and there’s a passive mode if you just want to let it run like a screensaver and watch the birds do their thing. Toss in an original soundtrack from Madwreck and you’ve got a game that’s weirdly calming considering how strange the premise is.
