Play the Wor!d

Play the Wor!d is a deckbuilding roguelite built around language. Each run begins with a set of randomly drawn letter tiles, which the player combines into words. Every word carries a grammatical role, and words are connected according to their parts of speech to complete sentence structures. The available letters change over the course of play, so the player must work with whatever tiles are in hand.

Sentences act as the game’s scoring system. Completing different sentence structures increases the score, and additional scoring opportunities can be triggered by word patterns, sentence structures and the characteristics of the vocabulary used. The game also includes emoji tiles, which introduce their own rules and effects that alter how words and sentences can be assembled and scored.

Progress is organised into rounds, each with a target score to reach. Between and during rounds, players adapt to the tiles they are dealt, discover new elements and refine their combinations in order to advance through the run.
