REMOTE CONTROL
Remote Control is a sci-fi horror typing adventure in which the player takes on the role of a Remote Proxy Handler working for the Plutus Corporation. The crew of the ship known as The Pelican has gone silent after sending a final message reading “It worked.” The player is tasked with investigating by directing human proxies through the ship, typing commands to move them and have them search locations.
The game begins with a limited set of typed commands, which expands as the player explores the ship, gathers information and unlocks new areas. Danger is present throughout the ship, and proxies can be injured or killed during exploration. When progress is blocked, the player must choose between pushing a proxy through danger or seeking a safer path. Only twelve proxies are available across the game, each with individual likes and fears that affect how they respond to commands, and death for a proxy is permanent.
As the player commands proxies to explore, the story of the crew’s collapse is revealed through scattered evidence and personal logs, touching on blackmail, betrayal and corporate greed. The narrative also introduces an unfamiliar presence within the ship, and the ship’s behaviour appears to change the further the player investigates.
