ROCKBEASTS
ROCKBEASTS is a management RPG set in an alternative version of 1990s America, following a band navigating the music industry from small-time gigs toward wider recognition. The game combines a scripted comedy-drama narrative with hands-on gameplay, meaning story outcomes are shaped directly by player decisions and performance rather than shown through cutscenes alone. The writing is credited to the principal writer of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and the voice cast includes performers from Baldur’s Gate 3 as well as musician Iggy Pop.
Core gameplay involves managing the band’s resources, including money, equipment and member morale, while completing quests that affect the group’s trajectory. Players craft setlists, repair gear, and take part in rhythm-based concert sequences that determine whether performances succeed or fail, with consequences for reputation, finances and band cohesion. Interactions with figures such as venue owners, promoters and record label executives introduce choices around creative freedom versus commercial compromise.
The game features a hand-drawn art style depicting settings such as music venues, record stores, radio stations and city streets associated with the 1990s alternative rock scene. It includes seventeen original full-length tracks written in the style of the era’s alternative rock, which players can perform during in-game concerts.
