Sundered®: Eldritch Edition

Sundered: Eldritch Edition is a hand-drawn metroidvania from the creators of Jotun. The player takes the role of Eshe, a wanderer in a ruined world who is trapped in caverns that change over time and are populated by large groups of eldritch enemies. The setting draws on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The story centres on a choice between resisting or embracing ancient powers, and the game has multiple endings and over 15 hours of play.

Exploration takes place in a world that combines hand-crafted and procedurally generated levels. Familiar metroidvania elements such as backtracking, hidden secrets and abilities that open up new regions are central to progress. Combat is melee-based, with monsters that spawn dynamically, and boss fights against uniquely designed enemies. Players can use corrupted relics to defeat large bosses, at the cost of Eshe’s humanity.

The game is designed to be challenging, and death is a regular part of play. After dying, the player respawns in the Hub, where they can level up and customise their character. Perks, stats and special abilities found throughout the world can be equipped and upgraded, with hundreds of upgrades and multiple character builds available. The Eldritch Edition includes the Magnate of the Gong update, which adds local co-op for up to four players, new areas and a new boss, the Magnate of the Gong.
