The Ash Remembers is a dark-fantasy idle RPG set in the ash-covered world of Veyr. Progress continues offline and in the background, and the game is sold as a single purchase.

The Ash Remembers is an idle dark-fantasy RPG in which the player arrives in the ash-covered land of Veyr as a stranger known as the Wanderer, with no memory of their reasons for coming. Skills and activities continue to advance while the game is closed or running in the background, including overnight. It is sold as a one-time purchase with no microtransactions, energy systems, purchasable currency, adverts or gacha mechanics.

The game includes 21 skills that can each be levelled to 100, covering gathering and production disciplines such as mining, fishing, smithing, alchemy, gem cutting, cremating, ember hunting and runecarving, alongside combat skills including melee, ranged, calling, hitpoints and defence. Reaching level 100 in a skill grants a title displayed on the player’s badge. Combat involves 76 foes, each with a loot table and a weakness that are revealed after enough kills, five dungeons with 25 bosses across normal, heroic and mystic tiers, five world bosses that scale with each rebirth, and four weekly titans. There are over 640 items featuring affixes, sockets and hardening, 28 companions to feed and raise, three houses to pledge to, six Ash Seals, five relics that can be developed into legendary weapons, and a player holding called Emberhome that is built in six stages using self-gathered materials. A living world system adds monster ecology, a 30-day moon cycle with a Blood Moon, night raids and a night watch that continues fighting during offline periods.

Three modes are available: Standard, where death costs only gold; Ash Path, a single-life mode where death ends the run unless an Ash Phylactery has been crafted at Crafting level 60; and Hermit, which removes the market and all buying so that every item must be made by the player. If the player dies three times to the same foe, the game explains the cause using the player’s own statistics and offers a weaker foe as an alternative. A rebirth system, called Ashfall, resets progress in exchange for persistent Ember Ash and a Pyre Tree that develops across runs, while achievements, companions, titles and Emberhome are retained. The Mystic Depth dungeon unlocks after the first Ashfall and is the only daily source of Ember Ash. The game was made by a single developer, contains over 1,100 illustrations and 15 music tracks, and is playable in English and German.
