The Messenger

The Messenger is an action platformer following a young ninja tasked with carrying a scroll crucial to his clan’s survival through a world under demonic siege. The story begins as a straightforward platforming quest but develops into a time-travelling adventure, with the game shifting between 8-bit and 16-bit visual styles as the narrative progresses.

Gameplay centres on acrobatic movement and precise platforming controls, with players guiding the ninja across varied levels featuring enemies, bosses, and environmental hazards. Progression includes character upgrades and new abilities that open access to hidden levels and branching paths throughout the game world.

The game features hand-crafted sprite work and backgrounds designed in the style of classic 8-bit and 16-bit titles, along with a cast of villains, bosses, and supporting characters. Its original soundtrack was composed by Rainbowdragoneyes using Famitracker.
