Toxic Yuri

Toxic Yuri is a visual novel with a dark romantic comedy tone. The player takes the role of OL-san, an overworked office worker in Kyoto who finds Doku-chan, a woman made of slime, abandoned in a cardboard box. OL-san takes her home and falls for her, and the story follows their relationship. Scenes described by the developer include a kiss in an onsen, a DIY date spent building a cage, and a hospital visit after eating Doku-chan’s cooking.

The game is split into six episodes. The way the player treats Doku-chan determines the ranking given to each episode: TOXIC, TONIC or TEPID. Choices change the story significantly. The game has more than 10 endings, some of them hidden, and more than 15 episode variants. Its script runs to over 100,000 words across many branching paths. Tepid routes include an option titled “Don’t Date the Toxic Sludge Woman”. The game also has 69 achievements.

On Steam, the game’s review rating has recently moved from Positive to Very Positive, and it now has more than 50 reviews. The developer’s description says the game draws on tropes from anime fanfiction.
