Urban Struggle
Urban Struggle is a fighting game from Pirituba Hills Studio set in São Paulo, Brazil, near the year 2099. A rebel military officer has begun a riot that plunges the city into chaos as he attempts to seize the government with the help of his followers. Players take on the role of lone fighters who enter the conflict to stop him, in an event referred to as the Riot of São Paulo. The game uses 8-bit style pixel graphics and is presented as a classic fighter with a simplified control system intended to be accessible to a range of players.
The game uses four buttons: A for weak attack, B for strong attack, C for Trait Skill and D for Manifest. Each character has an individual Trait Skill, described as a tool-like ability that differs between fighters and can be enhanced during Manifest Mode. Manifest Mode is tied to each character’s faith in one of the game’s Deities, beings said to have existed before humankind. When activated during a match, it increases the character’s skills and movement, with a particular effect on super moves, which cost Special Gauge and have additional effects. Switching between Manifest Mode and Normal Mode is part of the game’s strategy.
All characters have two hyper moves, Super Impact and Hyper Impact, which can be used in either mode and each cost one gauge bar. Super moves are performed with directional inputs in the style of traditional fighting games. Move lists and How to Play guides are provided in the game files and on the developer’s YouTube channel. The team consists of Ulissan (pixel art and character design), Chris Ketchem (pixel art and stage design), Nana Yaw Baah, also known as TheJetParadox (original themes and sound effects), and vo1cel1k3thund3r (announcer). A demo is available.
