VRetro
VRetro is a virtual reality game set in a tower that the player builds floor by floor. On each floor the objective is to locate a key, carry it to a locked box and place it in the lock. Opening the case reveals a treasure, and touching this treasure constructs the next floor. The key must be handled with care, as dropping it off the edge of the floor means going back down to retrieve it. Before starting, the player chooses the height of the tower, which can be anywhere up to one hundred floors.
Movement between floors is handled by climbing ladders, with rungs grabbed using the controller grips, or by jumping down to lower levels. Gaps in the floor can be crossed in several ways: smaller gaps can be jumped or bridged with a plank, larger chasms require items, and it is also possible to walk along the edge like a balance beam, though this is described as very dangerous. Planks and large blocks can be moved between floors to wherever they are needed.
The player begins with three lives. Colliding with an enemy costs a life, while catching a heart restores one; hearts are caught by placing a cube underneath them. A hammer can destroy threatening objects such as cannons and the birdhouses from which hostile birds emerge, a shield offers temporary protection, and a pistol can be used defensively. The graphics are deliberately kept simple in a retro style, which the developer states allows the game to run standalone on a suitable headset without a computer and is intended to reduce motion sickness.
