Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster

Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster is a Metroidvania-style adventure set in a country recovering from the wars of the portals. The new king of Imperia and the Sacred Kingdom have begun a war against non-humans, aided by Trece XIII, one of the Last Wizards of Arborea, and their generals. A prophecy foretells a chosen one who will unite men and beasts to bring peace. The player takes the role of the last Beastmaster.

The game uses a continuous map. Beastmaster abilities, including transformations powered by the souls of animals and creatures, are used to open new paths and unlock routes. Players collect beads for a ritual necklace, which provide fangs, amulets and plant roots that alter attacks, vitality or Mana. Combat options include sword techniques taught by the player’s old Sensei, magic potions and summoned curses.

Arenas feature duels with a close camera and energy bars, in the manner of classic fighting games. Completing them allows players to improve their skills and obtain unique items. Non-player characters appear throughout the adventure and add to the narrative. Interacting with them leads to new missions, story arcs structured like an anime series, and a number of different endings.
