BWAG

BWAG is a vertical run-and-gun game in the arcade tradition. The player character has had their money and clothes stolen by vegetables, and is left with only a hat, boots and guns. The aim is to travel through the gulch, defeat the vegetable outlaws and recover the stolen currency, known as ply. There is one road and one direction of travel, with no cover.

The game has five roads out of the gulch: Pickle Flats, Cobb County, Onion Hollow, Chili Canyon and Spud Gulch. Each ends with a boss fight. Outhouses can be shot to release ply, which is spent on upgrades: Fast Boots for speed, Long Johns for taking more damage, Beans for more dash fuel, and three tiers of weapon upgrades. The player starts with a salt rifle, and there are nine guns in total. The others are Pepper Shot, Relish Lobber, Laser Leek, Snot Gun, Double Grease Heat, Flavour Taser, Hot Sauce and The Big Fudging Gun. They differ in effect, such as arcing over cover, cutting a line through a row of enemies, chaining between targets or causing burning. A gas dash, powered by beans, lets the player move quickly through enemy fire and dodge incoming shots.

There are six bosses, each with a wanted poster, a title and a bounty: Pickle Peet, Cobb McGraw, Onion Kid, El Rojo, Baked Bart and The Last Supper. After the gulch is cleared, earlier bosses return in tougher forms. A further route past the final stage leads to an additional enemy that carries no bounty and can be challenged repeatedly. The player character remains without trousers throughout.
