Chip Builder
Chip Builder is a story-driven puzzle game centred on digital logic. The player takes the role of a junior engineer at the fictional company ChipCorp and works through a series of lessons that build towards a complete, functioning CPU. The game is structured into eight chapters containing 32 levels in total.
Circuits are constructed on an interactive canvas. Components are dragged from a palette and outputs are wired to inputs, with signals propagating live as the circuit is assembled. Each completed circuit is checked against the truth table it is meant to satisfy, so a solution must actually produce the correct outputs rather than approximate them. Lessons are delivered through the game’s narrative.
The chapters progress from basic logic gates handling 0s and 1s through to combinational circuits such as adders, multiplexers and decoders, then on to latches, flip-flops and registers. Later chapters cover RAM, ROM and address decoding, construction of an arithmetic logic unit, and assembly of the full CPU including the program counter, control unit and datapath. The final chapters move across the hardware and software boundary into machine code, assembly and algorithms, before introducing pipelining, caching and instruction set design alongside a free-building mode.
