Citadelum

Citadelum is a city-building game that combines settlement management, strategic expansion and interaction with a pantheon of deities. Players start with a small village and grow it into a larger city. They gather and refine resources from forests and quarries, breed animals, grow vegetables, fish and make wine to keep the population fed and healthy. Buildings can be improved, aqueducts supply water, and towers and walls defend against barbarian attacks. Citizens can be assigned as artisans, farmers or carpenters, or trained as different types of legion unit.

Beyond the settlement, players explore a world map, free besieged villages and command legions in tactical auto-battle combat. Once territory is secured, trade routes can be established to import exotic resources and expand the economy. Explorers can be sent out to find mythological objects that assist expansion, and players can complete missions for the Senate.

The third layer of play centres on the gods. Players build temples and make offerings to receive gifts, but favouring one deity may bring the anger of another. Interactions with the gods feed into a non-linear narrative intended to be replayable, with deities either aiding or punishing the population. Missions, artifacts and challenges differ from one playthrough to the next.
