EQUILIBRIUM
EQUILIBRIUM is a strategy simulation set in the world of global macroeconomics and geopolitics. Rather than governing a single country, the player takes the role of an unseen actor whose decisions affect the fate of nations, the value of currencies and the wider balance of international peace.
The core of the game is an economic model in which the player manages figures such as inflation, GDP, national debt and interest rates. Actions taken in the financial markets produce knock-on effects across the system, so a single decision can strengthen one region while destabilising another. Alongside this, the geopolitical layer involves alliances, economic sanctions and international tensions, and the player can use financial resources to influence elections, fund factions or attempt to stabilise regions at risk of civil war.
The interface is described as minimalist and is built to filter large volumes of global data so that opportunities can be identified without the screen becoming cluttered. Over the course of play the player is presented with systemic crises including pandemics, trade wars and revolutions, and must choose whether to work towards maintaining order or to use the resulting instability to increase their own influence.
