EventBox
EventBox is a desktop application, now released on Steam, aimed at players and streamers who want to layer additional challenges, overlays and automations on top of existing games. It is not a game in itself. Instead, it runs alongside titles played in windowed or borderless fullscreen mode and displays configurable widgets that respond to the player’s actions, microphone input or live chat. The software is organised into independent modules that can be switched on individually and linked together so that an event in one module can trigger behaviour in another.
The Counter module tracks values such as lives, deaths or attempts, supports counting up or down, automatic Game Over states, cooldown-based resets, custom colours and icons, screen flashes and sound effects. The Input Device module measures microphone volume in real time so that a scream or loud laugh can trigger actions elsewhere. The Timer module provides a stopwatch or countdown with session presets, automatic penalties and cross-module events. The Chat Commands module connects to a streaming platform in read-only mode, letting viewers adjust counters, apply penalties, fire visual or audio effects or activate a black screen overlay. The Sounds module manages playlists with interval sounds, background audio, volume normalisation, looping and shuffle. A Quick Actions sidebar, global keyboard and mouse hotkeys and a Stream Deck plugin allow overlays to be hidden, shown or reset without leaving the game.
On the technical side, EventBox offers an option to disable hardware acceleration, a 30 or 60 FPS limiter for its widgets, and multi-monitor support with saved positions and sizes. The developer states that all processing is local: no personal data or credentials are sent to external servers, the microphone module measures volume only and does not record audio, the Stream Deck integration uses a localhost server, and all settings, challenges and logs are stored in files within the user’s own directory.
