Gold and Robot
Gold and Robot is a puzzle game built around moving a robot through a series of maze-like levels. Each level contains gold to collect and doors to pass through. The first door in a level only opens once the robot has gathered 800 gold. After that door has been stepped on, every further door in the level opens as soon as the robot steps onto it, with no additional gold requirement.
Route planning is central to the design. Whenever the robot steps on a door, every cell it has previously walked across is converted into a wall, so paths taken earlier in the level become blocked. If a move turns out to be a mistake, the player can undo moves freely rather than restarting the level. Enemy tanks patrol the mazes and will fire at the robot; the player can either dodge their shots or shoot back. If a tank destroys the robot, the whole level restarts and the undo function is not available after death.
The game offers 55 handcrafted levels and the player can switch at any time between a full 3D view and a 2D overhead map to assist with planning. The developer states that the full game takes roughly three to four hours to complete. Gold and Robot was written in the Ring programming language.
