GoNNER is a score-based, procedurally generated platformer with roguelike elements. The player controls Ikk, who is joined by Death and a space whale named Sally.

GoNNER is a score-based platformer with roguelike elements. Its levels are procedurally generated, so each run presents different challenges and opportunities. The game also tells a story about friendship between Ikk, Death and a space whale named Sally. Failure is a regular part of play, and the game provides a range of replacement heads to use after the player loses one.

At the start of each run, the player can choose from a variety of passive and active abilities, which are gained through unlocks. Secret areas in the world contain items that become available from the beginning of every later run. The game does not state how to reach these areas or what is needed to find them. Players earn points by defeating creatures and building combos, and scores are ranked on leaderboards.

A Daily Challenge mode can be played once per day. In it, all players share the same generated world and an identical loadout, and the challenge resets at midnight Swedish time (UTC+1). The GoNNER BlüEBERRY EdiTION update adds new weapons, heads, enemy types, a new challenge and updated visuals. GoNNER won an IGF award, and the game includes a soundtrack.
