Hell Is Other People

Hell Is Other People is a point and click adventure in which the player controls a little girl trying to find her place in a society that demands conformity. She is different from those around her, and they react badly to it. The game is set across three realms: a black and white Real World, the protagonist’s whimsical Inner World, and a Nightmare World. In the Real World, the inhabitants cannot see colour and regard her as broken. She has face blindness, so to her they all look the same.

Instead of physical items, the player’s inventory is made up of social skills, which are used to interact with characters known as The Others. Using the wrong skill can make them aggressive, volatile or offended, which in turn affects the protagonist. Her experience is tracked through three mental states: Overwhelm, Paranoia and Dissociation. If negative interactions push these to critical levels, the player’s perception becomes distorted, different story branches unlock, and the game can reach darker endings. An Alter Ego also accompanies the protagonist, amplifying her fears and anxieties, and its advice is not always reliable. The game has multiple endings and choices that affect the outcome.

The game was made by Miss Self Destruct, a one-woman studio founded by Cami Cuibus in 2026, and it is her first title as a solo developer. She previously co-founded Stuck In Attic, where she worked as an artist on Gibbous: A Cthulhu Adventure and Near-Mage. The animation is hand painted frame by frame, and the game has an original soundtrack. The developer states that no generative AI was used in its creation.
