A side-scrolling platformer in which players control Kijino, a two-tailed cat-eared adventurer, exploring forest ruins on Isekizima through combat, platforming and skill upgrades.

isekizima: Ruins and Tails Journey (original title: isekizima-To-Tabisuru-Nekomata) is a side-scrolling platforming action game. Players control Kijino, an adventurer with cat ears and two tails (a Nekomata), who travels to Isekizima, an island described in a tourist brochure as a place of dreams and romance. The game is set among ruins buried in a forest and uses folk chants and instruments in its music, with over 40 songs composed for the setting.

Movement options include dashing, dodging and a triple jump, and travel also involves a grappling wire, minecarts and pilotable golems. In combat, players combine attacks and special skills to build up fire in the Nekomata’s two tails and hit multiple enemies at once. Over a dozen skills can be unlocked and upgraded, and stats such as maximum HP and stamina can be raised or optionally locked at level 1 for a harder experience. Checkpoints are placed at regular intervals, often near difficult areas, so that players can retry quickly. The game also includes tutorial stages, in-game tips and control hints.

The story is delivered through in-game conversations, event dialogues and illustrations. Content includes bosses, high-difficulty areas, achievements and collectibles. The listed estimated playtime is around 10 hours for the main story and over 20 hours for full completion and exploration. The developer states the game aims to sustain the feel of an opening stage, so its atmosphere and difficulty do not change greatly as the adventure progresses. Language files are supplied as plain text and can be edited or added to by players for translation purposes. The developer also states that the game uses no generative AI and no AI-generated images, sounds or other materials.
