Monitor State

Monitor State places the player in the role of an operator in a retro-futuristic dystopia where cameras track the movements of every citizen. The developer describes its tone and moral weight as comparable to Papers, Please. The player monitors people, enforces strict laws and uncovers secrets, and the decisions made along the way can change the course of events.

The game presents a range of cases that call for the player’s judgement. News feeds reveal an underlying story, and the laws change over time, so the player has to adjust their approach to new cases. Each decision strengthens or weakens the player’s loyalty to the System, and the Department closely watches every choice, which comes at a cost.

The player can follow the System’s demands, join a secret resistance, side with the logic of the AI, or look for a different path. According to the developer, the world reacts to the player’s actions and its fate depends on them. The developer also runs a Discord server for updates.
