A linear visual novel following Nienke, a dark elf working in her parents' café, whose quiet routine is disrupted when a stranger claiming to be a childhood friend arrives.

My Darling Dark Elf is a linear visual novel centred on Nienke, a twenty-year-old dark elf living in the secluded village of Alpenrose. Her family is the only dark elf household in the area, and she was teased throughout her childhood for her appearance. A serious illness when she was young also left her smaller and slighter than her peers. Her closest friend, Cornelia, has recently left to attend university, but Nienke’s overprotective parents have kept her at home on account of her health, where she helps out at the family café, Fleur de Lys.

The story begins when another dark elf named Merel turns up in Alpenrose and introduces herself as a friend from Nienke’s childhood. Nienke has no memory of her, and is puzzled both by Merel’s forceful, upbeat manner and by her considerable height. The narrative follows the two as their relationship develops, with the game described as a slowly building romance between the pair.

The game contains roughly 80,000 words of text, estimated at four to five hours of reading. It is entirely linear, with no player choices and a single ending. Character artwork is by Toromi and the game has a custom soundtrack. Maid characters also feature in the story.
