Paratopic: Overdub

Paratopic: Overdub is a first-person narrative horror game from the developers of Paratopic, released in 2018. It is presented as a three-in-one project, combining a remaster of the original game, a remix of its content and a sequel that continues the story. The game revisits the original’s liminal horror setting and its focus on videotapes.

Players move through a fragmented, non-linear story told across a series of scenes, including long drives through the countryside, conversations with talkative shop clerks, sightseeing, games of solitaire and acts of violence. The narrative is deliberately uncertain, with the player left to piece together what is happening from the pieces they encounter. Locations draw on American roadside imagery such as motels, petrol stations, late-night diners and abandoned industrial sites.

Compared with the 2018 release, Overdub features updated textures and animations, additional environments and characters, and further secrets to uncover. The original Paratopic won the Excellence in Audio award at the 2019 Independent Games Festival.
