Plan B: Terraform – Worlds of Fire and Water
Plan B: Terraform – Worlds of Fire and Water is an expansion for Plan B: Terraform, a terraforming and colonisation game developed by Gaddy Games. It introduces two new planet types, each with its own set of environmental problems and a distinct approach to gathering resources, managing temperature and creating habitable land.
The Fire World is a volcanic planet with constant eruptions and extremely high temperatures. There are no minerals to be found at the start, but cooling lava produces mineral-rich basalt that can be extracted. Players use new terraforming tools to neutralise greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and can launch solar shade satellites into orbit to lower the temperature. Water is initially limited to a few small geysers, though later in the game rockets can be launched to bring ice comets to the planet and supply large volumes of liquid water.
The Water World is almost entirely covered by ocean, with only a few islands available for colonisation. Players must cool the planet so that the ice caps expand and sea levels fall, exposing new land, and can also build dams or reshape terrain to create further dry ground. Minerals are obtained by filtering ocean water that has become mineral-rich through contact with the sea floor. However, plants and plankton cannot grow in mineral-polluted water, so areas must first be cleaned to allow plants to establish. These plants help plankton spread, which in turn neutralises nearby mineral pollution and is also needed for oxygen production.
