Save the Forest
Save the Forest is a turn-based tactics game set in a forest where the animals have forgotten their long-standing pact with the local humans and fallen under the influence of Morgathrax, an evil circus director. The player gathers a group of townsfolk from the village, heads into the woods and attempts to defeat the corruption at its source. If a run ends in failure, a fresh band of villagers can be recruited for another attempt.
Combat plays out on a grid where each unit acts in a fixed order: first it moves, then it attacks, in a manner the developer compares to chess pieces. Positioning is central to success. Most enemy actions are telegraphed in advance, so the player can see what opponents intend to do on their turn and plan accordingly. Between battles, coins earned along the way can be spent on upgrades and new recruits, letting players choose between a small, heavily upgraded squad, a balanced group or a large roster of units.
The game includes more than 28 recruitable unit types and over 130 upgrades, with each run offering different combinations of units and skills. Some of these involve unusual options such as firing catapults. The forest also contains special events unrelated to the main conflict, including a frog merchant who gives away his goods, gnomes racing horses and fairies whose favour can be earned.
