SHADE Protocol is a 2D cyber-fantasy Metroidvania combining precision combat, fluid mobility and a narrative-driven world overtaken by sentient metal.

SHADE Protocol is a 2D cyber-fantasy Metroidvania set in a dying world overtaken by Elythium, a sentient metal that has turned against its creators. Players control Zura, a prototype Replica capable of manipulating reality, as she explores the ruins of civilisation, uncovers lost technologies, and confronts an enemy that has rewritten the fabric of existence.

Combat centres on switching between DAWN and SHADE modes, each altering playstyle and gameplay dynamics. Players wield Instruments, code-based weapons inspired by music, such as the Twilight Spear, Sunrise Great Axe, and Midnight Chakram, each offering distinct combat and exploration abilities. The combat system emphasises precision melee attacks combined with parries and counters, with successful timing restoring Echo, an energy resource used for powerful attacks and defensive manoeuvres.

The game features the UNISON System, allowing players to manipulate the world’s underlying code to relive key moments and influence the outcome of the war between SHADEs and Xaviors. Exploration takes place across interconnected areas called Bastions, where discoveries affect the unfolding narrative and the fate of the SHADE Protocol.
