Soft(A)ware
Soft(A)ware is a puzzle-platformer set inside a virtual world that functions as a prison. The player awakens within this system and must break its rules in order to progress, with the narrative built around the idea that awareness is the first step towards escape. The setting is described as a surreal digital environment made up of shifting constructs, and the story concerns discovering what, and who, is actually trapped there.
The core mechanics are gravity-shifting traversal, which allows the player to walk on walls and ceilings, and a time-rewind ability used to undo mistakes and solve temporal puzzles. Levels combine hand-crafted challenges with procedural variety, and there are hidden pathways and secrets for players who explore beyond the main route. Constructs patrol the world and must be outwitted along the way.
The game includes three modes. Story mode introduces abilities and obstacles gradually as the player progresses. Story Plus is unlocked after finishing the story once and lets the player replay it with all abilities available, along with higher difficulty levels, certain events already in effect, and the possibility of a different ending. Endless mode, unlocked after completing the tutorials, presents procedurally generated levels with no saving and no checkpoints; the player continues until they fail, with scores based on the number of levels completed and completion speed, and results tracked on leaderboards.
