Welcome to Elderfield

Welcome to Elderfield is a cosy horror RPG in which the player settles in a small town where strange occurrences are treated as everyday life. The townsfolk are eccentric, eldritch beings observe the community, and the local news grows odder over time. The game uses hand-drawn artwork influenced by horror manga, and its lo-fi soundtrack was composed by Dated. Players can customise their home and character, investigate daily mysteries, build relationships with residents and marry one of them, as well as fish, mine and forage in the surrounding wilds.

Farming is a central part of the game. Players cultivate land, harvest crops such as corn, pumpkins, teeth and eyeballs, and manage a range of otherworldly livestock. They must also keep unruly tentacles from spreading across their land and deal with creatures from the woods that may wander onto the farm.

The game offers selectable difficulty levels. A cosy mode provides a more relaxed experience focused on harvesting and exploration, while higher difficulties involve encounters with Lovecraftian horrors through a turn-based combat system that draws on gathered resources, buffs and equipment. Welcome to Elderfield has now moved out of development and is fully released on Steam, where it holds a Very Positive rating from over 1000 user reviews, and one DLC item is available.
