Your Story: Games with Death

Your Story: Games with Death is an interactive text quest in the Choose Your Own Adventure genre. The player follows a young adventurer in the Middle Ages who leaves his hometown to seek out unknown lands. The story is shaped by the decisions the player makes, and each choice can move the narrative towards success or towards one of many possible deaths.

The game is built around a branching structure of more than 2,000 events that affect the course of the story, along with over 200 distinct ways for the protagonist to die. Locations described in the story include sea voyages, dense jungles and ancient ruins. Decisions that appear correct can still lead to death, and the consequences of a given choice are not always predictable. The developer presents death as part of the game’s structure, allowing the player to learn from earlier mistakes on subsequent attempts.

Three difficulty levels are included. The lower setting is intended for players who want to focus on the story, while the higher setting increases the frequency and threat of death throughout the playthrough. The game is presented as a visual novel with a text-driven narrative.
