Beltmon

Beltmon is a pixel art monster collecting game set in a world where players travel between towns to catch creatures known as Beltmon, which are stored on the player’s belt rather than in their pockets. The game features dozens of creatures, each with its own transformations, and players assemble a personal team from them in order to take on the champions of every city.

The player controls Tray, a 31 year old who is unemployed and still lives with his mother. Over the course of the story Tray meets a range of characters with distinct personalities and challenges them in Beltmon battles. The plot also involves an antagonist called Lord Terfling, whose army of TERFs is attempting to prevent all Beltmon from transforming.

The game uses a deliberately dark and gloomy pixel art style, with animations and progression built around old school grinding in the manner of 1990s monster collecting titles. The soundtrack is rock based, with the developer citing early 2000s music as the reference point. The developer states that Beltmon is a parody, and that any resemblance to existing games or media is intended as satire.
