Hitobashira is a survival horror game in which the player controls Yuzu, a student trapped in an alternate version of her school, solving puzzles and avoiding a pursuer. It has a PSX-inspired style.

Hitobashira is a survival horror game with a visual and audio style inspired by early 2000s consoles. The player takes the role of Yuzu, a second-year student who finds herself stranded in a twisted alternate dimension of her own school. The aim is to find a way to escape.

Gameplay centres on exploring the deserted hallways of the school, solving puzzles and meeting strange characters while uncovering the secrets of the setting. The puzzles draw on Japanese culture, folklore and urban legends. A figure stalks the player through the school and pursues her persistently, and hiding does not guarantee safety.

The game combines an anime-influenced art style with elements of Japanese folklore and horror. It includes four endings: two main endings and two secret endings.
