Nightmare Frontier
Nightmare Frontier is a tactical extraction looter combining turn-based combat with the risk-reward structure of extraction shooters. Players lead a crew of Scavengers into a ruined City, sent by a character named Doc under the promise of riches. As the story progresses across City Districts, more details emerge about Doc’s true intentions and the nature of the Nightmare affecting the City.
Each Scavenger carries one of 16 Fears, which determines which Dreadweaver enemies and hazards will appear on a given raid. Combat is turn-based and deterministic, without dice rolls or hit chances, and takes place on battlefields filled with interactable objects and hazards that can be used to affect the outcome of fights, such as causing ricochets, environmental damage or chain kills. City Districts are randomly generated and infinite, with map nodes leading to combat encounters, facilities, anomalies and quests. Progressing deeper increases the Nightmare Level, raising both the difficulty of fights and the value of available loot, while limited backpack space and permanent loss of items upon defeat require players to weigh risk against reward.
Between raids, players manage the Hideout, the only area safe from the Nightmare. Here, loot gathered from raids, including weapons, gear, Nightmare Essence and monster parts, can be used to upgrade equipment and unlock new Compounds across four unlock trees. The 1.0 release includes 16 Fears and Enemies, over 80 upgradable items, more than 30 interactables and hazards, four playable character classes, four unlock trees, four Districts and eight unique tactical objectives, presented within an endless, procedurally generated setting.
