SoundStone
SoundStone is a building sandbox in which players draw directly onto a stone plate and watch the marks develop into walls, raised courtyards, stairs, gateways and elevated walkways. Plans can range from a small sanctum to a larger temple precinct, and the same plan can be reworked as a design changes. Regions can be raised or lowered, separate courts joined by walkable arcades, and routes opened through gateways.
The geometry of a site also determines how it sounds. Walls can be retuned and resonant structures placed, so proportion, route, pitch and light combine to make each construction a playable composition. Structures can be tuned into scales, consonant intervals and musical patterns that change over time. Other building options include entrance stairs and processional routes, vertical construction with individual bays opened as arcades, and carved stepwells and quarry halls for designs that need depth.
Several stone types are available: golden or red sandstone, white marble, weathered granite, Deccan basalt, Hoysala soapstone and laterite. Lighting moods can be changed independently of the plan. The game includes undo, redo, save and load functions and a guided building tutorial. SoundStone is in Early Access, with the developer stating that the construction sandbox, musical behaviours, visuals and usability are still being expanded and refined.
