You're the last librarian left, and every book request could be a lie, a clue, or a trap. Read between the lines before someone decides what gets banned or burned.

Every other library has been shut down. Yours is the last one standing, and you’ve been handed the job of custodian, the last librarian in a world where information is dangerous. Patrons come to you with requests, and it’s down to you to dig through the card catalogues, piece together vague or misleading clues, and work out exactly which book they’re after. Then comes the hard part: identify it, recommend it, ban it, or burn it.

Your predecessor vanished without a trace, and the deeper you dig, the more the library starts to feel like a puzzle box built to hide something bigger. Forbidden books, hidden messages, and quiet talk of rebellion all point to a truth someone doesn’t want getting out. The resistance is counting on you to find the evidence they need, one card catalogue entry at a time.

The Restricted Index is a first-person mystery puzzle game about working out who’s telling the truth when nobody’s giving you the full story. It’s got a lot to say about censorship and power, but at its heart it’s about the small, quiet choices you make every day and whether you can live with them.
